SimBlocks.io wrapped up another year at IITSEC, the world's largest modeling, simulation, and training conference, which is held annually at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. SimBlocks.io is combining commercial gaming technologies with global terrain rendering and LVC interoperability, middleware which provides our customers with great flexibility for multi-domain simulation and training.
We featured our One World SDK for Unity, which provides whole-earth visualization at multiple levels of detail with support for WGS84 coordinates and streaming Web Map Services.
SimBlocks.io has developed several tools to import OpenFlight, SE Core, and NPSI databases into the Unity game engine with streaming support for large databases. At IITSEC 2018, we also exhibited our latest tool, the CDB SDK for Unity which shows the Los Angeles CDB database with over 3 million buildings, running smoothly in Unity. This database was provided by VATC Epic Ready.
Partners
SimBlocks.io partnered with several companies at IITSEC to showcase how collaboration can greatly enhance training capabilities.
VATC
Supporting the "Train as you fight and fight as you train" adage, VATC Epic Ready has produced a suite of applications to enable today's warfighter to be better prepared for any mission."
Real-Time Innovations
Real-Time Innovations' Connext DDS is the platform that brings distributed simulations together in a secure, high performance, scalable environment. Based on the DDS standard, it has the necessary security and interoperability requirements for cross-vendor, cross-branch and cross-ally simulation of the evolving battlefield.
SimBlocks.io partnered with RTI to create a CIGI host capable of consuming Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) topics from DDS. The host then communicates with Unity through the CIGI SDK for Unity to control and visualize the entities in real-time. Connecting Unity with a CIGI-compatible host is now possible. The CIGI SDK for Unity is compatible with the One World SDK for Unity.
TerraSim & Bohemia Interactive Simulations
SimBlocks.io has added support for the STEWS™ terrain server as an additional provider of geospatial content for the Unity game engine on top of the One World SDK for Unity. STEWS™ is a one-world terrain server, developed by TerraSim (a Bohemia Interactive Simulations company) that streams whole earth terrain layers form the Cloud to VBS STE, VBS Blue IG and other runtime engines.
"Developed as part of research and development for the U.S. Army's Synthetic Training Environment, any application connected to STEWS can stream high fidelity terrain data in a performant manner. Both new and legacy terrain formats are supported through new STEWS plug-ins," said Pete Morrison, CO-CEO, Bohemia Interactive Simulations. "BISim is focused on building modular, future-proof technologies that are flexible and compatible across multiple simulation platforms and game engines. SimBlocks.io's application of STEWS with Unity offers yet another example of the flexibility of TerraSim and BISim technology."
Improbable
SpatialOS by Improbable is the distributed compute platform which enables simulations and training environments of unprecedented scale, fidelity and complexity. SpatialOS allows the integration of external simulators and models, and leverages cloud and local compute to simulate strategy, tactics or both together."
SimBlocks.io created a concept video of a drone swarm bombing a city using SpatialOS distributed entity behavior processing. SpatialOS is well-integrated with the Unity game using the SpatialOS GDK.
SimCentric Technologies
SimBlocks.io integrated with SAFFIRES from SimCentric to simulate indirect fire missions and crowd behavior reactions. SAFFIRES can be used for Call-For-Fire and Close Air Support training simulations. The DIS standard was used to connect SAFFIRES with Unity.
VT MAK
VT Mak provided a CDB terrain of 29 Palms, which our team imported into Unity using the CDB SDK for Unity.
Simthetiq
SimBlocks.io is able to load high-fidelity OpenFlight 3D models and terrains into the Unity game engine using our Flight Importer SDK for Unity. With this tool, our customers can easily and reliably reuse existing 3D simulation content in a modern game engine.
MODSIM Best Paper Award
In addition to our demonstrations, Ashley Medford, Dr. James Frey, and Jordan Dauble were awarded MODSIM Best Paper at I/ITSEC 2018 for the paper "Leveraging Commercial Game Engines for Multi-Domain Image Generation". Originally presented at the MODSIM WORLD, an encore presentation was given by Ashley Medford as part of the Best From Around the Globe session.
SimBlocks.io strives to meet the very important simulation and technology needs of our defense and simulation customers. We enjoyed meeting the individuals and groups who stopped by our booth for live demonstrations and one-on-one meetings during IITSEC 2018. If you didn't have a chance to meet our team at IITSEC, just reach out to us anytime. We would be happy to discuss how SimBlocks.io can help you meet your simulation and training needs.
